So, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s a big question to ask someone who’s still working out what they want for lunch.
With exams approaching and the next stage of life getting closer, it can feel like everyone expects you to choose a path and stick to it. And when the same popular options keep coming up, it’s easy to wonder where you’ll fit.
Here’s a thought: you don’t have to choose your whole future right now. You only need to choose what you’re curious enough to explore next.
Notice what you enjoy. Pay attention to the things you’re good at, the problems you like solving and the people you enjoy working with. Ask questions. Talk to people doing jobs that interest you. Try something new, even if you’re not sure it’s “the one.”
Your first choice doesn’t have to be your forever choice. Plenty of careers take unexpected turns, and sometimes the best opportunities are the ones you didn’t know existed yet.
So, if you’re heading into exams without a perfect plan, take a breath. You’re not behind. You’re at the beginning of figuring it out.
